Celebration turns sour after dispute escalates to gunfire in Academy Springs Park
Covington-crime

COVINGTON, Ga. — On Sunday, officers with the Covington Police Department (CPD) responded to gunfire at Academy Springs Park.

Based on the initial CPD investigation detailed in a press release, an unidentified male fired “at least three rounds” at multiple victims.

Two of the rounds struck a vehicle that the victims were using as cover. The CPD did clarified that no one was harmed in the altercation.

The CPD’s preliminary investigation points to the incident stemming from a birthday party.

A male victim and the mother of his child were in attendance. The two engaged in what the CPD called “personal disagreements, specifically related to the victim’s attendance and who he brought with him.”

The altercation then extended to the playground area of the park, where the CPD said the victims were attempting to leave. This is when the unidentified man reportedly opened fire.

The shooter’s relation to the arguing parties remains unclear, as do the identities of the two victims.

The CPD told The Covington News that no arrests have been made at this time. The department is actively pursuing leads in the case and welcomes information regarding the suspects or their location. Information can be given to Det. Bowles at 678-625-5590.
