Angel Henderson, a 2017 graduate of Newton College and Career Academy, was the recipient of the NAACP Achievement Award Scholarship at the Freedom Fund and Scholarship Gala Sept. 16.
Henderson focused on classes in the healthcare field and maintained a high GPA, while also participating in extracurricular activities, including volunteering at the senior center and an internship with Dr. Eastlyn Harding.
She now studies biology at Kennesaw State University and plans to attend medical school after graduation and specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
Henderson is the daughter of Jerome and Sharon Henderson, of Covington.
She was awarded for her achievements and educational goals.
"Education is a vital tool to my success and achieving my academic and professional goals,” she said.
Also in attendance was Congressman Hank Johnson, Newton County School System Superintendent Samatha Fuhrey, Civil Rights Attorney Gerald Griggs and NAACP President Gwen Cattledge.
