Savana Arwood, Alexis Alvarez, Kymberly Blankenship and Carter Malcolm signed a letter of commitment to improve the quality of education for students in the state of Georgia.

Eastside Assistant Principal Bart Buff said this year's signing was the second time the school had participated in the statewide event.

"The idea is that we recognize and celebrate our future teachers the same way that we recognize and celebrate our future athletes or scholars in whatever field with different kinds of scholarships," he said. "These four are senior members of our school chapter for Future Georgia Educators that Mrs. Ashlyn Lazenby and I started here last year.

"We need good, bright, young, energetic people to go into this field. For a lot of reasons, there's a popular narrative out there of, 'don't go into education,' but Mrs. Lazenby and I feel strongly that its, of course, always going to be important work. It's valuable work and for us, it has been very rewarding work. I don't have a single regret about my career choice and we want to help young people that have an interest see that it can be a very viable and very rewarding option."
