NEWBORN, Ga. - Three men were arrested at a Newborn address in Morgan County after a month-long joint undercover drug investigation by an ad hoc task force comprised of investigators from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

MCSO Captain Christopher Bish said an ad hoc task force is not a formalized task force, but the three departments just pulled their resources to work together last minute after receiving information about the drug activity.

The undercover investigation culminated in the execution of two search warrants, one in Morgan County and the other in Jasper County, that resulted in the arrest of five individuals total. Investigators also recovered methamphetamine, marijuana, $2,600 in U.S. currency and assorted firearms, according to a news release from MCSO.

Jose Torres Hernandez, Jorge Dela Trinidad and Gerardo Martinez were arrested by MCSO at 1550 Farrar Road, Newborn, and charged with violations of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act as well as firearms violations and are being held in Morgan County without bond.

The other two individuals were arrested and charged in Jasper County. The Covington News has submitted an open records request to JCSO for information on those arrests.

Bish said 1550 Farrar Road is a Newborn address, but it is the very last house on Farrar Road in Morgan County. It is adjacent to the Jasper County line.

Bish said the investigation is ongoing.
