High-speed chase from Jasper County ends on Highway 278

COVINGTON, Ga. - A high-speed chase, which was initiated in Jasper County, ended on Highway 278 in Covington yesterday afternoon after a two suspects wanted out of South Carolina decided to flee in a stolen vehicle. 

According to a statement from JCSO Captain Mike Steele, JCSO received information about a stolen vehicle out of Lakeland, Florida equipped with GPS showing its location in Jasper County. 

"Upon locating the vehicle the vehicle fled and deputies pursued it in to Morgan County then back into Jasper County and then into Newton County," he said in the statement. "The pursuit ended near the intersection of Highway 278 and Turner Lake Road at the I-20 on-ramp."

Patrick Bridwell, the driver, and Jessica Gillenwater, the passenger, were taken into custody. 

Covington Police Department and Georgia State Patrol assisted in the pursuit.
