COVINGTON, Ga. - Newton County crews worked Thursday morning to pick up mulch which was spread throughout Spillers Parker earlier this week.

According to a statement provided by Newton County Public Information Officer Bryan Fazio the county is working with the city of Covington to find a solution for Spillers Park.

"The county discovered the mulch was not of park-grade material and worked quickly to maintain the safety of the park," according to the statement. "Piles of mulch were placed at the park in late March following a request by a Covington City Councilperson in anticipation of the city’s upcoming clean-up day April 21. In an effort to be supportive of cleanup efforts and be an active partner with our municipalities, this request was met by the County.

"Newton County currently is in communication with the city of Covington to find the best path forward for Spillers Park, along with the Newton County Recreation Commission."
