WINDER, Ga. — Solidifying their place in the Class 5A playoffs, the Eastside Lady Eagles went on the road and defeated the Apalachee Lady Wildcats 7-0 on Friday, April 1.

Goals were scored by Lauren Davis (2), Katie Oakley, Joanna Funes, Mia Mostek, Sophia Leal and Jordyn Jones. Abigail Morgan (2) as well as Oakley and Leal assisted on four of the seven goals, too.

Three goals were scored in the first half with four being scored in the second half to provide plenty of cushion down the stretch. The Lady Eagles’ defense did not allow a single shot on goal, either, which helped preserve the shutout victory.

Eastside Coach Joel Singleton was thrilled with his team’s performance.

“We played a very good game tonight,” Singleton said. “Our passing was as good as it’s been all season. I thought we executed on the offensive end as well as we have all season. Multiple players scored and assisted scores. I love that about this group. They like to see their teammates enjoy success!”

With the win the Lady Eagles improved to 10-4-1 overall and 4-3-0 in Region 8-AAAAA, which secured a state playoff berth for Eastside.

The Lady Eagles will play at Region 6-AAAAA champion Midtown, formerly Grady High, in Atlanta on Tuesday, April 12. Eastside’s final regular season match was scheduled for Friday, April 8, at Sprayberry High.
