COVINGTON, Ga. — Even as the Eastside Eagles’ boys soccer team must wait a little while longer to take its next Region 4-AAAA test, coach Champ Young’s bunch continues to see fruits of tests already passed.
Eastside (10-1-1, 5-0 in Region 4-AAAA) moved up a spot from No. 4 to No. 3 in the latest eurosportscoreboard.com Georgia Class AAAA high school rankings. The Eagles trail only Chestatee and undefeated Upson-Lee, ranked Nos. 2 and 1 respectively, and are one spot ahead of fourth-ranked Woodward Academy.
Both the Eagles’ boys and girls squads were set to take on Druid Hills in a pair of pivotal matches set for Thursday. But due to the shifting dates of the Newton County Special Olympics games — now held at Sharp Stadium Wednesday through Friday — Druid Hills will come to town on Tuesday April 16 with kickoff times at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for girls and boys action, respectively.
Druid Hills’ boys team (6-6-1, 4-0) is the only team other than Eastside that’s undefeated in region play. The Lady Red Devils (11-3, 4-0) are also undefeated in the region, and sit in a tie for first with Woodward Academy (5-2-2, 4-0). The Eastside Lady Eagles (9-2-1, 4-1) could take sole possession of second place in the region with a victory over Druid Hills.
The new date for the Druid Hills games will replace an originally scheduled non-region match with South Gwinnett that will fall off the schedule. All other games will take place as scheduled, meaning the next action on the pitch for both squads will be on April 9 at North Clayton
