LETTER: Some thoughts on the recent CPD lieutenant arrest
Letters

Dear Editor,

The headline on The Covington News front page (7-2-2025) carried the full story of CPD Police Lieutenant Al Miller’s arrest for drunk driving (DUI). I am certain no one is more sick about this incident than Officer Miller. Interim Chief of Police Brent Fuesting said all the right things regarding police being held to a higher standard. And that the officer has been suspended until all facts are known is appropriate.

I don’t know Officer Miller, but I would ask who amongst us hasn’t stepped out of bounds in our lives--no matter what our vocation or status in life is? Should good people be given a second chance? I think they should when their record dictates some leniency. I would hope that those who decide on this case will look at the officer’s record and contribution to our city, and if warranted, punish him and help if alcohol is a recurring problem, suspend him, but not take his job. We cannot cure the plethora of problems/crime in our society today by coming down on a single person with the full weight and force of command authority.
