Oxford sophomores honor fallen students

The 2017 sophomore class of Oxford College honored two members of the Oxford community by naming a room in Candler Hall after them March 29.

Abinta Kabir and Faraaz Hossain, campus leaders, were lost in the tragic terrorist attacks in Dhaka, Bangladesh July 1, 2016.

The each served as programming chairs for the Student Activities Committee. The honor was given to “commemorate the achievements, leadership and service” of the two students.

History was made on Tuesday night when longtime Newton County Schools (NCS) employee Chandra Mitchell was named the inaugural Newton County Schools district-wide “HERO.”
