The Georgia FFA Association held the 2017 FFA Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 21. The Newton College & Career Academy FFA chapter was one of twenty-four local FFA chapters from across the state invited to attend the day that included a legislative breakfast, a group photo with Governor Nathan Deal, a Senate resolution honoring FFA Day and opportunities for FFA members to meet their Representative and Senator.
Members of the NCCA FFA chapter attending the FFA Day at the Capitol included Ms. Emmalee Richardson and Mr. Doster Harper. Also attending were FFA advisor Mr. Marcus Pollard and NCCA CEO/Principal Mr. Chad Walker. The students had the opportunity to meet with State Representative Dave Belton and Senator Rick Jeffares.
The FFA Day legislative breakfast was conducted by the State FFA Officer team and featured a lineup of speakers that included Governor Nathan Deal, Speak of the House of Representatives David Ralston, Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black, State School Superintendent Richard Woods, Senator John Wilkinson and Representative Terry England.
“The FFA Day at the Capitol is one the most important events we host each year,” said State FFA President Willie Sizemore. “We have the responsibility as members to tell the story of agricultural education, FFA and the industry of agriculture. What a better way to do that than by coming here to the Gold Dome.”
“FFA Day at the capitol is a great experience for our students,” said Pollard. “Not only do they get to see the tremendous support that is provided by our legislators, but they also had the opportunity to see firsthand how bills are debated and voted on. I am thankful that Governor Nathan Deal took the opportunity to speak with all of the FFA members at the breakfast.”
There are more than 649,355 FFA members nationwide. The Georgia Association has over 41,000 members, making it the third largest Association in the nation.
