Shooting Sunday in Social Circle

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. - The Social Circle Police Department (SCPD) responded to two calls of a person shot Sunday around 2:11 p.m. in the area of Ronthor Drive and Tower Road, according to a news release. Upon arrival, officers found two victims.

Victims were identified as, 24-year-old Heather Smith, of Covington, and 26-year-old Quantavious Banks, of Social Circle.

Smith was pronounced dead on the scene and Banks was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threating injuries.

The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Desmond Sherron Jackson, of Social Circle, is in custody and being held at the Walton County Jail charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated battery, possession of firearm during the commission of a crime and felony murder.

The victims and suspect know each other but we are actively working the investigation to determine what led up to this event. This is an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the public.

SCPD is receiving assistance from other agencies to include Walton County’s Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Office and District Attorney’s Office as well as The Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
