COVINGTON, Ga. – A 22-year-old Lithonia man was Tased and arrested on felony drug charges Monday afternoon after being observed by Covington police making a marijuana sale at an Alcovy Road gas station, according to a report.
After police stopped a blue vehicle involved in the transaction when it pulled away from the Shell station at City Pond Road just before 2 p.m. April 23, the other person involved in the deal, Xavier Dequian Barnett was observed standing on the sidewalk near the Alcovy Road entrance to the business.
According to the report, an officer asked to speak with Barnett and he began walking toward police. When he got within arms-reach of the officer, Barnett reportedly turned and ran. The officer pulled his Taser and discharged a cartridge, which had no effect and Barnett continued to run.

While Barnett was being searched, police reportedly found two large bags that had several small bags of marijuana in them and a large bag of marijuana. When the small bags were counted by police, there were reportedly 39 bags of marijuana packaged for sale.
According to the report, Barnett was cleared by EMS and transported to the Newton County Detention Center charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, sale of marijuana and obstruction.
