NEWTON COUNTY – A Covington man has been arrested on multiple drug-related charges following a traffic stop.
The traffic stop conducted by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division (SID) on Sept. 27 found that Walter Johnson, 50, was in possession of a large amount of drug and drug paraphernalia.
Specifically, Johnson was found with 90 grams of methamphetamine along with other schedule I narcotics.
The NCSO also obtained a search warrant for Johnson’s residence where further evidence of drug trafficking including scales and baggies were found.
Johnson was formally charged with trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine and three counts of possession of schedule I narcotics. He is being housed at the Newton County Jail.
"This arrest is a result of our relentless efforts to remove dangerous drugs off the streets and hold those who distribute them accountable,” said sheriff Ezell Brown. "The safety and security of our Newton County community remains top priority.”
