COVINGTON, Ga. - With municipal elections around the corner and candidates in the full campaign swing, The Covington News has presented each candidate with the opportunity to answer questions in this public forum.

Up first, the candidates for the Covington City Council. With three council seats up for election, two competitive races have started to heat up in Newton County’s county seat.

Anthony Henderson and Jeffrey Johnson qualified for the chance to unseat Post 3 West Ward incumbent Councilwoman Ocie Franklin, who also qualified. Current Post 2 East Ward Councilman Chris Smith will have competition this fall from Susie Keck. Incumbent Hawnethia Williams qualified for reelection for the Post 2 West Ward race without competition.

After multiple attempts to contact both Franklin and Williams, neither responded to the questionnaire from The Covington News by press time.
