A new boutique featuring apparel for both men and women will open its doors on the Covington Square in late August.

Southern Roots Boutique is moving into the old Spires location at 1116 Monticello Street.

Southern Roots Boutique will carry the latest fashions for men and women, such as Patagonia, Peach State Pride, Rayban, Southern Marsh, Over Under, Southern Shirt Company, State Traditions and True Grit, along with womens’ boutique clothing. The boutique will also have gift items for men and women as well.

Blake Knight, owner of Southern Roots Boutique, said the Covington store will be the second location. The other Southern Roots Boutique is located in Monroe.

“We wanted to give our customers the small town personal feel, where we know our customers by name, but also provide them with all the popular brands and items they would find in bigger box retail or bigger cities,” Knights said. “We loved the square in Covington and have been looking at it for some time before finding the right location.”

Knight said a big attraction to coming to Covington was the Newton County economic development team of Dave Bernd and Serra Phillips.

“The economic development team has made Covington the place to be for local family oriented events,” Knight said. “We saw a need for a store like ours and we are looking forward to working with all of the other locally owned businesses on the Square.”

Knight said he plans to provide excellent customer service and an amazing shopping experience while being close to home.

Southern Roots Boutique will be one of three boutiques to open in recent months, joining Sweet River on Washington Street and Blair on the Square on Church Street.
