COVINGTON, Ga. — Peachtree Academy hosted Region 3 powerhouse Unity Christian Academy Lions on Friday night, in what was expected to be a close, physical game. And although it was physical, it was the Panthers who took care of business as they routed the Lions 47-6, improving their record to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in region play.
It was a strong defensive effort by all, as the Lions came in averaging over 31 points a game, yet fell way below that average Friday night..
Led by junior running back, Daniel Cassamajor, the Panthers amassed 317 yards on the ground. Cassamajor also returned a punt for a 70-yard TD that electrified the crowd.
The rushing attack, led by Cassamajor’s 151 yards and two scores, allowed the Panthers took control of the game early. Senior Hunter Payne contributed 102 yards and two touchdowns, and it was actually Payne’s first score that got the night started for the Panthers.
The passing game was led by junior Marvin Peoples, who threw for 52 yards to compliment the running attack and sophomore Dakota added a 17-yard touchdown pass on a perfectly thrown slant to Peoples to end the half with the Panthers leading 26-6.
The defense, again, shut down the opponent in the second half. Leading the way were Kaleb Brisbane with five solo tackles, followed by Dakota Boeckman’s four stops and Zach Pearson’s three tackles and a sack.
The Panthers now get a well deserved off week before stepping back on the field to take on region rival New Creation Christian in an away game on September 28..
