Former Newton bigman Miller transfers

Former Newton bigman Darius Miller will transfer to Chattahoochee Tech this fall for his second year of basketball after playing at Central Georgia Tech last year.

Miller, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound power forward, played for Newton’s Final Four team of 2010. He’s a defensive specialist that will provide Chattahoochee Tech with a low-post presence and rebounding.

"He has great toughness," said CTC head coach and athletic director David Archer. "He’s an undersized power forward, but he has the skills and footwork to be effective. He’s also a very good rebounder. He has a nose for the ball, which is something we were missing at times last year."

Newton coach Rick Rasmussen agrees.

"Darius is a major post presence and will be able to make an immediate impact at power forward," Miller’s former coach said.

Miller was a three-year varsity starter before transferring to Newton for his senior season. He led the Rams in blocks and rebounds in 2010 while averaging 10 points per game.

"This is a great fit for him," Rasmussen said. "This will provide him with a chance to complete his associate’s degree then have a chance to play elsewhere as a junior. We are excited for him. He’s a great young man and we are very proud of him."
