Athletes of the week: 11/03
Davonta Jones scored two touchdowns in Newton’s 29-26 victory over Rockdale. Jones was all over the field on Friday night. He played exceptionally well at receiver and even got some big yardage when he came in to run the ball out of the wildcat. Jones’ best play came on his second touchdown. Jones ran a post route to the back goal post in the end zone blanketed by Rockdale’s star player TJ Warren. Jones went up, came down with the ball like a man-child and got the score to bring Newton within five.
