Traffic circle at 138 and East Fairview to come

A roundabout will be coming to the busy intersection of Ga. Highway 138 and East Fairview Road in the next couple of years.

The intersection, which is a passing point between Henry County and Rockdale County and sees traffic from nearby Lorraine Elementary and Davis Middle School, is currently a four-way stop. It is also a state road, so the Georgia Department of Transportation will be shouldering the costs of the improvement.

The county, however, will provide for the costs of lighting and landscaping for the roundabout. The cost will be about $3,600 annually. The Board of Commissioners approved a letter of support at Tuesday’s meeting pledging to provide for landscaping and lighting

Installing a traffic circle can be cheaper than installing a traffic light in areas without businesses or development right on the intersection, said Rockdale County Transportation Director Miguel Valentin.
