Mayfield Ace Hardware will close in its current location and relocate to 2171 Elm Street, Northeast on Jan. 2.
The hardware store has been located at 3173, Hwy 278, Covington, in the same shopping center as Kroger for ten years. The family business has been running since 1973 when it was located on the Covington Square.
While located on the Square, Mayfield’s sold both hardware and gifts due to the store’s larger size.
Now, in the store’s future location, which will be next to Antiques and Stuff, size won’t be an issue.
Lee said that the new location wasn’t selected at random, that he has been eying the place for 15years.
“We need more room and the timing on the lease,” Mayfield said. “[We hope to have a] wider variety of products, outdoor living.”
Mayfield said the new store can carry even more product in its 24,000 square feet, than its current store of 10,000 square feet.
Among the new items, Mayfield will carry Carhartt clothing.
“It will help connect businesses,” Mayfield said. “We can help homeowners, and accommodate people with trailers and golf carts.”
