Cut cable disrupts local phone service

Parts of Porterdale and Covington are without use of their landlines due to a drilling mistake.

Charter workers installed a fiber optic cable for The Covington News Friday afternoon when they accidently drilled into AT&T's main duct run (hollow tube running from manhole to manhole inside a conduit in an underground system) causing some AT&T customers to be without use of their landlines or DSL, said Facility Technician T.J. Harper.

"The utility lines were not properly marked so Charter was unaware it was there," he said.

Those residents in Porterdale and at the Covington Square Senior Apartments should regain use of their landline by mid-week, Harper said.
