SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. - Investigators with the Social Circle Police Department (SCPD) are investigating an early morning shooting that took place around 4 a.m. July 6 on Holly Street.

According to a news release from SCPD Chief Tyrone Oliver, the department received a call from the Covington Police Department (CPD) in reference to a person shot at the Piedmont Newton Hospital Emergency Room. CPD was on scene at the hospital.

SCPD responded to Holly Street and located “several shell casings in the roadway,” according to Oliver’s release.

The victim has been identified as Tydre Colquitt, 18, of Social Circle. He reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his torso-area and was transported from Piedmont Newton Hospital to an Atlanta-area hospital by air. He is listed in critical condition, according to Oliver’s release.

According to the CPD incident report, Colquitt said he was walking on Holly Street when he saw his friend “having words” with an unknown person. He started running in his friend’s direction “in order to de-escalate the argument.”

“Colquitt stated he heard approximately four to six shots and stated to his friends he was ‘hit,’” according to the report.

“This is still an active investigation with assistance from the GBI, Walton County District Attorney’s Office and Walton County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene,” Oliver said in the release.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact SCPD at 770-464-2366 or email Investigator Jett at mjett@socialcirclega.com
