NEWTON COUNTY — Newton County Sheriff Deputy Joseph McClarin and Covington Police Department Officer Alexander Hobbs exercised unique compassion when they chose to help shelter a homeless couple and their pets.
On May 11, the pair responded to a call at a CVS in Covington. Seeing that no crime had been committed, McClarin and Hobbs took this call as an opportunity to help out a homeless couple and their dogs.
“Their compassion and willingness to go above and beyond are a true reflection of what it means to serve with heart,” the Newton County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.
A storm was beginning to roll in, and the law enforcement officers realized they wanted to get the couple off the streets and to safety. McClarin and Hobbs took it upon themselves to cover the cost of one night in a hotel and purchased dog food to feed their pets.
