COVINGTON, Ga. —  About a dozen dogs from around Newton County put on their best outfits and made it to Turner Lake Park on Thursday, Nov. 14, for the grand opening of Newton County’s newest dog park.

The dog park is located just inside the entrance to Turner Lake Park, at 6185 Turner Lake Road NW in Covington, and is open from dawn to dusk.

The new dog park has two fenced-in areas — one for small dogs, 30 pounds and up, and one for larger dogs, 30 pounds and more — and features several activities and apparatus for dogs to exercise.

“A lot of work went into this park,” Newton County Parks and Recreation Director Ternard Turner said. “This park will allow you to have a safe environment for your puppies to play. We have a small area for less than 30 pounds and for more than 30 pounds. This allows us to unleash our animals and let them run free.”

Members of the Newton County Recreation Commission celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new park by hosting a dress to impress contest with Bettina Martina and Elle winning first place in her Georgia Bulldogs outfit.

“It’s a fabulous dog park,” Newton County Recreation Commission Chair John Anglin said. “We are excited for the community. This is just one of the things we want to engage the community.”
