NEWTON COUNTY – County Manager Harold Cooper will continue to be placed on administrative leave for seven more days following a 4-1 vote from the Newton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) on Monday.
Cooper has been on administrative leave since Feb. 13. The commissioners placed him under a 10-day leave period following his arrest for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI). The 10-day period was paid leave and covered working days only, per section 1116 of the Newton County Employee Handbook. Cooper’s paid leave would have expired this coming Thursday.
Monday’s motion calls for a seven-day extension, which would carry the leave period to next Tuesday’s BOC meeting.
