James A. Barthelemy of Precision Locksmith in Covington, recently earned the designation of Certified Registered Locksmith by the Dallas-based Associated Locksmiths of America.

The certified registered locksmith credential provides an objective measure of an individual's knowledge and competency in locksmithing and physical security. It is recognized as the locksmith profession's first level of certification.

Barthelemy had to demonstrate that he had met certain education and work experience qualifications. He then had to pass a comprehensive examination that tested his knowledge and skills in major areas of locksmithing and physical security.

To maintain his credentials, Barthelemy must apply for recertification every three years. The ALOA Proficiency Registration Program was introduced in 1985, and Barthelemy is one of more than 2,700 physical security professionals to achieve this level.
