SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — Veteran coach Vernon Denmark has been hired to be the newest boys basketball head coach at Social Circle High School, according to a social media post from Social Circle Athletics.

Denmark comes to Social Circle with over two decades of coaching experience. His first head coaching job at the varsity level came right down the road at Heritage High School. In six seasons at the helm, Denmark secured a 111-55 record.

Following his tenure at Heritage, Denmark became the head coach at Stockbridge High School beginning in the 2019-20 season. That tenure did not result in the same success, with back-to-back losing seasons in his first two years.

Denmark secured a winning season in his third year, going 16-9 during the 2021-22 season. But his fourth year was his worst as a head coach at that point, going 3-21.

After four seasons at Stockbridge, Denmark made the move to Forest Park after the 2022-23 season. During his first two seasons, he finished with a combined 3-41 record. However, his last season (2025-26) proved to be a significant step in the right direction, going 10-17.

Overall, Denmark enters his fourth head coaching job with an overall record of 154-181.

Denmark is set to succeed former head coach Norman Jones, who left the team after three seasons as the boys head coach and two seasons as the girls head coach. Social Circle City Schools said in a statement last month that Jones and the team had “mutually agreed to part ways.”

In his three seasons as the boys coach, Jones accumulated a 36-45 overall record, also going 0-3 in state playoff appearances. He finished his two seasons as the girls head coach with a 22-32 record and 0-2 in the state tournament.
