The sun isn’t the only thing trying to get out through the rain this summer, as the Post 77 American Legion baseball team has also struggled to see the field recently.
Tuesday, there was a break in the weather, long enough for Rockdale to take on Buford, but things didn’t pan out the way Post 77 would have liked.
After taking a four-run lead in the third inning, Rockdale gave up a run in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. In the 10th frame, Buford put two runs across the plate and gave Rockdale its first area loss of the season.
Eric Alderman picked up the loss in the 10th inning as Rockdale’s fifth pitcher of the day. After Cole Hamilton got the start, Casey Shubert lasted the longest of Rockdale’s mound contingent, going four innings. Drew Buckhault then came in in relief, followed by Dalton Etheridge.
Eastside’s Buckhault and Salem’s Zach Bailey had two hits each for Post 77.
Former Eastside standout Jake Wright and Cole Murphy drove in a run each as Rockdale’s offense continued to click.
Rockdale Post 77’s offense is on track as it winds down the American Legion baseball season.
Post 77 defeated Peachtree City 17-2 Sunday, for an average of 18 runs throughout three games prior to playing Buford. After Tuesday’s game, Post 77 now has 62 runs in its last four games.
Former Eastside slugger Musashi Briem led the way against Peachtree City, tallying four hits, including a home run, and driving in three runs. Bailey also had four hits and Cameron Ragsdale drove in three runs. Both players hit home runs.
Josh Smith picked up the victory on the mound, throwing 85 pitches in six innings.
Rockdale will look to get back in the win column and continue its strong hitting performances with home games against Loganville, which ended after press time Thursday, Peachtree City Saturday and Dawsonville Sunday to end the regular season.
