After helping the Rams to a win over Meadowcreek Tuesday afternoon, Newton senior setter Tiandria Cotton has been named the Rams' Player of the Week.
Cotton, a senior on the Rams' squad, is in her fifth year of playing volleyball.
At her position as setter, Cotton likens her mission on the court to quarterback's on the football field.
"I'm the one on the court navigating where passes are going," Cotton said. "Anytime there is a mistake, it gets put on me. It's hard getting the ball where it needs to be."
Cotton said that volleyball allows her to get her competitive juices flowing.
"I like being with my team," she said. "It's a great way to get to meet new people and be competitive at the same time."
When she's not on the court, Cotton said that she can always turn to a good book.
"I’m a big reader," Cotton said. "I love reading."
With the end of the regular season drawing near, Cotton has dreams of continuing life on the volleyball court.
"Hopefully I can play in college," she said. "That's my goal."
