NCRC opens registration for fall sports

With temperatures rising, it’s hard to believe that summer is half over. With school soon ready to start, that means fall recreation sports will also soon get going.

Registration for several fall sports began this week through the Newton County Recreation Commission (NCRC). Adults and youth can now begin signing up for adult fall kickball, adult fall softball and Miracle League fall ball.

From now until August 12, women can register for the women’s fall kickball league set to begin in August. The league will feature a 10-game schedule, as well as a single elimination tournament at the end of the season. The fee to join is $500 per team and is due at the time of registration. A coaches and players meeting will be held at Turner Lake on August 17 at 7 p.m.

The NCRC has also opened registration for its men’s and coed adult fall softball league. Similar to the kickball league, the softball league features a 10-game schedule and a single elimination tournament at the end of the season. The fee to join is $500 per team, and teams can register for one of three divisions: men’s open/industrial, church and coed. A coaches and players meeting will be held at Turner Lake on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m., with the season set to begin Sept. 6.

The Newton County Miracle League has served as a way to provide children with disabilities a chance to participate in physical activities. The baseball program has opened registration for fall baseball, which will closes Aug. 12. The season runs from Sept. 9 to Dec. 31, and the fee to join is $35 for residents and $50 for non-residents of Newton County. Children aged 4-years-old and up are encouraged to join.

For more information about these leagues and more, contact Richard Nash of the NCRC at (770) 786-4373 ext. 35, or register online at www.newtonrecreation.com.
