Eastside exits in second round

The Eastside Eagles varsity softball team saw its season come to an end on the road Wednesday night, falling in straight games to Heritage (Catoosa) 11-1 and 10-0 in the second round of the Georgia High School Assoication state playoffs.

The Eagles reached the second round after defeating Redan in two games.

The Eagles recorded three hits against Heritage in game one, with Molly Moon and Hayle Yates going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Heritage knocked in 10 runs on eight hits, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

The Eagles plated their lone run in the second inning. Eastside catcher Taz Powell reached base on a Heritage error, reaching home three batters later on a Yates' single to left field.

Heritage added three runs in the second inning and two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to close the game in five innings.

Katie Fletcher earned the loss for Eastside, giving up eight hits, four earned runs and two walks. Fletcher also struck out four in the loss.

Eliminated
In game two, the Eagles were held to just a pair of base hits, as Caitlin Ray and Madison Hopper finished 1-for-2 at the dish for Eastside.

Heritage tallied 10 runs on just four hits, as the Eagles committed five errors in the loss.

Heritage plated four runs in the second inning and six in the fourth, while keeping Eastside off the scoreboard.

Ray took the loss in the circle, giving up one earned run in four innings of work.
