ATLANTA — Georgia State announced its football schedule for the 2019 season on Friday. The 2019 season will mark the 10-year anniversary for the Panthers’ football program.

The Panthers open the year on August 31, traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee where they will take on what’s expected to be a much improved Tennessee Volunteers squad. This will be the first time in program history that Georgia State will open its season on the road and on a Saturday.

The Panthers’ home opener will take place on September 7, against Furman.

Other notable games include hosting Army on October 19, which set a school record for wins last year with 11. The annual matchup with rival Georgia Southern will take place in Statesboro on November 30, capping off the 2019 regular season.

Georgia State will play eight Sun Belt Conference games, with road games against Texas State, Costal Carolina, University of Louisiana Monroe and Georgia Southern. The Panthers’ conference home games will be against Arkansas State, Troy, Appalachian State and South Alabama.

Former Newton quarterback Romario Johnson signed with Georgia State last year and should appear on the Panthers’ 2019 roster as a defensive back.
