The Alcovy football team finally has its new lead guy.
Chris Edgar has officially been named the head coach of the Tigers, succeeding former coach Kirk Hoffman.
“Oh my gosh, I was elated,” Edgar said as he recalled the day he first got the news. “This my dream job. I’ve been at Alcovy since we opened, and God willing, I hope I retire at Alcovy.”
It’s no secret that Edgar has a huge task ahead of him. The Tigers went 1-19 over the past two seasons, and all eyes will be on the former assistant coach to turn the program around.
And he has every intention to do so.
“The guys that are currently on the team are starving for success, and I just want to help be that person that helps,” Edgar said. “With my staff that I’m putting together, we want to bring them to the success that they deserve and work for. That’s the main goal.”
Edgar knows that winning is important to his players, but he also plans to stress the importance of hitting the books.
“I want my kids to graduate,” he said. “I want them to have the grades to go on to be prepared to do whatever they need to do in life.”
With a solid plan in place to build strong relationships with his players, Edgar his high hopes that Alcovy will be ready to get back into the wins’ column in no time.
“If you do all those things, then the wins are going to come too,” Edgar said. “Of course we want to win games, and I think we have a chance to do that very quickly.”
