Velma B. Skipper, age 78 of Conyers, died Sunday January 1, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. James Skipper, Conyers; son & daughter-in-law, Jacob Thomas & Alison Skipper, Milton; daughter, Zena Skipper, Cumming; grandchildren, Jared Skipper, Makenna Skipper, Hannah Grace Skipper; brother, Bill Brannon, Barnesville; sister, Catherine Brock, Griffin; mother-in-law, Kathleen Skipper, Griffin; numerous nieces & nephews. Mrs. Skipper was a loving mother and grandmother with a quick wit. She was a graduate of Gordon High School in Barnesville, attended Clayton State College, Dekalb College and Gordon Military College. She was a member of the 1948 State Champion Softball Team, an expert bowler and loved arts and crafts. Mrs. Skipper was also a member of Rockdale Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Rockdale Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Sirmans, Rev. Billy Moss and Rev. Ron Gardner officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Ga. Cancer Foundation, 1301 Hightower Trail, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30350.
