Golden State Foods, one of Conyers largest employers is expanding again, after already adding 60 employees to date in 2009.

Wayne Morgan, Vice President of GSF Meat Group, said the company, which is most well-known for making meat patties for the McDonald’s Corporation, is continuing to add jobs as it expands its production capacity at its food production plant at 1525 Old McDonough Highway.

Morgan said GSF is contracting with new food companies and is expanding existing partnerships, which is increasing sales. Morgan did not name any companies, but said GSF supplies products to several national and global quick service restaurant companies.

The plant in Conyers is one of only two GSF food production facilities in the United States and produces meat products and liquid products, which includes condiments, sauces, dressings, syrups, jams, jellies and other toppings.

Morgan said the Conyers plant currently employs 460 people, up from 400 in 2008, and he said more people will be hired in the near future.

"GSF is a dedicated part of the Rockdale community and is glad to be a part of the community," Morgan said. "We look to continue our relationship with the individuals associated with us and those that come on in the future as we serve our customers with quality products."

People who are interested in GSF jobs in Conyers can search for jobs online at goldenstatefoods.com/career.asp and apply at the local plant.

The plant will expand internally, but Morgan said GSF has no plans to add another facility. However, GSF did rent out more than 100,000 square feet of warehouse space at 1475 Ga. Highway 138. No jobs are expected to be created at the warehouse, because existing plant personnel will be used.

GSF has been in Rockdale County since 1975 and chose the location because of the strategic benefits of being near Atlanta. Morgan said the area is very accessible, making it a good entry point for raw materials and a good central location to ship out finished goods. The Conyers plant services a large portion of the country.

Morgan wanted to add that GSF is active member in Atlanta through the GSF Foundation, which supports local organizations that help children and families in need. Some of the foundation’s local partners are the local Boys and Girls Clubs, the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House and Horse Time in Newton County.

GSF exports bread, liquid, meat and produce products to more than 50 countries on six continents and runs operations in Cairo, Egypt and Sydney, Australia, according to the company’s Web site. GSF was founded in 1947, is valued at $3.7 billion and employs approximately 3,000 people world wide.
