Earlier today, Grady Jarrett was selected as the first pick of the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
Jarrett, a senior defensive tackle for Clemson last year, went to high school at Rockdale County High, Class of 2011. This incredible news comes on the heels of a fire that hit Jarrett's home just yesterday.
Rockdale County Fire Rescue received a call around 8:15 p.m. Friday to Jarrett's four-bedroom home in north Rockdale. The fire began in an extra room that was built above the garage, according to RCFR spokesperson George Cox.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was already coming through the roof and had burned through the floors, destroying Jarrett's memorabilia.
Any vehicles in the garage were able to be taken out by the time the firefighters arrived.
"The only part of the home affected was the bonus room and the garage. The structure of the home was intact," said Cox, though there may be some minor smoke damage to the house. Check back later for the full story.
