We seem to do well these days to mark a decade in one job.
Julia Gibbons put in 40 years at East Newton Elementary School.
That's impressive.
What's even more impressive is that the dedicated fourth grade teacher made a daily 100-mile roundtrip commute from Athens to work with our children.
That's about 720,000 miles of commuting over the course of her career. Some truck drivers put in less miles on the road in a career than that.
Gibbons retired with the end of the school year.
Our community has lost a dedicated educator, a mentor to many, and a go-to teacher for her school.
Thanks, Ms. Gibbons, for your dedication. We hope you enjoy your retirement.
