The three victims in Monday's fatal accident identified
scene

Two of the three victims in Monday’s fatal accident involving a Newton County School System (NCSS) school bus were under the age of 10.

According to Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis, 6-month old Malcolm Christian-Worthey and 9-year-old Daysean Green were in the rear passenger seat of a BMW, and Sammie Lee Sawyer Almore, 37, was driving when the car hit the school bus head-on.

All three were not restrained, according to Davis, and were pronounced dead at the scene from “blunt-force injuries from the motor vehicle accident.”

The two injured passengers are Dessie May Christian, 39 (front seat passenger) and Sashie Green-Almore, 7. Both passengers were also unrestrained and taken to Atlanta area hospitals by helicopter.

Daysean Green was a fourth-grade student at Rocky Plains Elementary School, and his sister Sashie Green-Almore is a second-grader at Rocky Plains.

"We were saddened to learn that he and two of family members did not survive," said a NCSS statement. "Faculty and staff at Rocky Plains Elementary are grieving right now and we know that many students may also have difficulty receiving the news.

NCSS said counselors will be on hand to provide support at Rocky Plains. Support is also being provided to the system's transportation team.

The collision occurred around 3 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Spring Valley Way and Hwy. 162. There were no students on board the bus at the time of the crash, and the bus driver was not injured. All occupants in the BMW are from Covington.
