ATLANTA (AP) — Sen. Saxby Chambliss is calling on the Obama administration to declassify details about five detainees who were released from Guantanamo in exchange for an American soldier held captive by the Taliban.

Chambliss in a letter released Wednesday says he's opposed such a transfer since 2011 based on intelligence he has had access to but the American people haven't. The Georgia Republican serves as vice chairman of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

After five years in captivity, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was released Saturday in a swap for the five Taliban detainees.

Chambliss says the public should know why the five were being held, adding "if the American people had this information, they would agree we should not be returning these terrorists back to the fight."
