ATLANTA (AP) - Two Republicans who garnered the most votes in a Tuesday election will now meet in a runoff for a state House seat representing part of Cobb County.

The special election for House district 43 took place Tuesday.

John Carson got 35.8 percent of the vote, and Robert Lamutt got 31.3 percent. They will face each other in an Oct. 18 runoff election.

The seat was left vacant by the death in July of state Rep. Bobby Franklin, a conservative Republican who had represented the district since 1996.
