AUGUSTA (AP) - Authorities say a Richmond County jail inmate has died, 15 days after they say he was beaten by another inmate in a holding cell.

Sheriff's officials said 48-year-old Earl Alphonzo Bolar Waynesboro died Wednesday.

Authorities said they have upgraded charges against 30-year-old Jeremy Gene Taylor of Swainsboro from aggravated assault to murder in connection with the death.

Investigators said both men were in the holding cell when they say Taylor attacked Bolar, who was sleeping on the floor, and beat him with his hands and feet.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/rkoYir) that Bolar had been treated at Medical College of Georgia Hospital for severe head injuries, and died around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
