CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A felon who police say shot himself to death after fatally beating his pregnant wife also raped a 15-year-old girl the same day.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/12PkcG2 ) reported a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office affidavit stated 34-year-old Terry Lee Releford duct taped the teen and held a gun on her while assaulting her.

Police said Releford beat his pregnant wife so savagely that they couldn't determine whether she might have also been shot. Tammy Hale Releford was found dead in the couple's home on Sunday. She was 35.

Releford served 15 years in prison for sexual attacks on two Bradley County women when he was 18. He was convicted on counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

Tammy Hale married Releford three months after he was released from prison, which was a year ago. They lived in a house in unincorporated Hamilton County, near Soddy-Daisy. Deputies found the victim dead when they arrived after a call for help from a neighbor's house.

Releford was later found holed up in a motel in Calhoun, Ga., and fatally shot himself as police tried to talk him out.

Spokeswoman Janice Atkinson of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said only the medical examiner's report remains in Tennessee.

"Although the suspect is deceased and there will be no legal aspect to this case in Tennessee, Georgiaauthorities will continue their investigation into his death," Atkinson said.
