LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a man was killed after a confrontation with police detectives outside Atlanta.

Gwinnett County police said in a statement that two detectives had been interviewing people at the home in the Lawrenceville area around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding a case of terroristic threats or acts.

Police say that as the detectives were speaking with people inside, the suspect pulled up in a minivan and approached the home. Police said in the statement that the man produced a weapon and one of the detectives fired his gun as the suspect "may have been attempting to commit suicide."

Police say they're still investigating whether the man killed himself or was killed by the detective's gunshot.
