PEACHTREE CITY (AP) - A Newnan man is being held at the Fayette County jail on bonds totaling more than $23,000 after police charged him with having a portable methamphetamine lab in his backpack at a Peachtree City Walmart.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/q4Khb3) that police say investigators were called to the store Tuesday after receiving a report of a suspicious person.

Police say they began talking to 40-year-old Steve McLeroy at the store and searched his backpack.

Officers say they found a small amount of marijuana and a homemade device to make methamphetamine.

Police say McLeroy is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, obstructing officers and reckless conduct.
