ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's office is offering tips to homeowners dealing with frozen pipes as the region faces sub-freezing temperatures early this week.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, Ralph Hudgens, says Georgians whose homes are damaged by the extreme cold may be able to get financial help through their homeowners policies.

Hudgens says some policies may cover repairs to internal plumbing that was caused by frozen pipes. He says policies may also pay for damage to carpeting, furniture and other belongings that may have been damaged because of frozen pipes.

Hudgens says damage from water entering a house from outside — such as from a broken water line — may not be covered.
