GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Hall County's district attorney has cleared two sheriff's deputies of wrongdoing in a fatal shooting.

District Attorney Lee Darragh says he reached that conclusion after studying the findings of a July 11 shooting at the Harbour Point subdivision.

Authorities said at the time that 29-year-old John Pearce killed his mother, 64-year-old Mary Pearce, in their home and then stabbed and critically injured his aunt, 66-year-old Gretchan Pearce. Deputies responded to the scene and shot Pearce, who authorities say was nude and covered in blood, when he charged at them after they confronted him outside the house.

Darragh says the reinstatement of deputies Charles F. Greenwell and Rainey N. Wood from administrative leave is up to the sheriff's office.
