ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 7.2 percent in May -- up from 6.9 percent in April.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the increase is typical for May. He said that during this time of year, new jobseekers typically enter the labor force, primarily college graduates looking for full-time work and students seeking summer jobs.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced the new unemployment numbers early Thursday.

The May rate of 7.2 percent is down from 8.4 percent from May of last year.
