ATLANTA (AP) — State transportation officials say they're planning to suspend road work near shopping centers to accommodate Georgians looking to save money during the upcoming tax holiday period.
Officials say construction work will be suspended from Friday night to Saturday night within five miles of shopping centers or major shopping districts throughout the state.
Department Commissioner Keith Golden says the agency is "glad to offer some relief from lane closures as families prepare for school."
GDOT officials say drivers should still exercise caution as heavy traffic is expected throughout the state. Transportation officials say emergency-related lane closures are still possible at any time.
