ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia transportation officials say they're restricting lane closures on interstates and major state routes to accommodate for increased traffic during upcoming holidays.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials say the agency is limiting construction-related lane closures between 5 a.m. Dec. 23 and 10 p.m. Dec. 28. Lane closures will also be restricted between 5 a.m. Dec. 31 and 5 a.m. Jan. 2.

GDOT officials say they're focusing on planning for increased traffic near tourist destinations and large shopping centers during the Christmas and New Year's holiday periods.

Officials say the closures don't include emergency lane restrictions and closures that are linked to safety concerns.
